David Nathaniel Landy
‘So teach us to number our days so we may gain a heart of wisdom.’ Psalm 90:12
David Nathaniel Landy was born to the late Mary Campbell and Alfred Landy on April 19, 1955. He grew up in the village of Sandy Point and was the apple of his mother’s eyes. He attended the all age school in Sandy Point under the care of his aunt, the late Mrs. Jessie Campbell. In his teenage years, David battled mental health challenges, and this prevented him from completing his formal studies. Although presented with this challenge, David never lost his personality; he had a mischievous grin and enjoyed playing with the other children in Sandy Point and engaging in boyish games. David loved the beach and spent hours skipping along the shoreline.Whenever his mother could not find him, you could rest assured that he was on the North Bay. He took pride in keeping his surroundings clean and kept the village of Sandy Point pristine during his time in the road works program. David was also very faithful; if he told you he was going to do something you could rest assured that he would do it. She loved her David and he loved his aunt Tappy. She made sure that his basic physiological needs were met. He would often go by his aunt Tappy house to see if she needed his help with anything. He knew that once went to his aunt’s house there would be a hot meal and cold drink waiting for him. David loved his food and he had a healthy appetite. When he arrived you would hear from a distance ‘food time food time’. David had a built in food alarm. One of his favorite meals was peas and grits with a cold Ritz soda or a Malta. While David was not fond of wearing shoes, he knew that once he
was going by his aunt’s house he had to put on his slippers if only for a short while. David possessed a great knowledge of the outdoors and knew which plant could be used to for different treatments.
