CLAUDETTE MUNROE-CLARE
Mrs. Claudette Munroe-Clare has been involved in education in since 1972. She holds a First Class Grade 1 Trained Teacher’s Certificate from the Cyril Potter Teachers’ College in her native Guyana, a Bachelor’s Degree in English Linguistics and Spanish from the University of Guyana, a Spanish Proficiency Certificate from the Central University of Caracas,
Venezuela now the University of Caracas, a Diploma in Communication from the University of the West Indies, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Management and Curriculum Development from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.
A veteran educator, Mrs. Munroe-Clare was numbered among the first group of teachers to serve the Clement Howell High School when it opened in 1987. She served as a senior teacher and Vice-Principal at the school before she was promoted Education Officer, Zone 2 with responsibility for schools in Providenciales, Middle and North Caicos. She also served as Coordinator of the Turks & Caicos Islands Community College,
Providenciales Branch on its establishment in 1994. At the end of her tenure in the Department of Education in 1999 she went on to establish the New Age Academy and Language Centre, a school which catered mainly but not exclusively to students and adults for whom English is a Second Language. She closed this institution in 2011 and now operates the New Age Book Centre.
Mrs. Claudette Munroe-Clare has served on a number of education committees and has been a member of several social and civic groups. She is a member of the Soroptimist Club. She served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Turks & Caicos Islands Community College from 2013 to 2015. In 2015 she was recognized with the Meritorious Service Medal by the government of the TCI for her contribution to education in the Turks & Caicos Islands.
She is the proud mother of three, former teacher to countless and as she jokingly says, grand-teacher to scores... the children of her former students!
