GEORGINA ELAINE BEEN
Mrs. Georgina Elaine Been is a proud native of Salt Cay. She has been a dedicated Educator for over 30 years.
Her love for the island, for books and learning, and her penchant for helping others encouraged her to seek employment in the only school in Salt Cay as a Teacher. She vividly recalls how she would practice teaching the benches and any child who would listen to her.
It was obvious that Mrs. Been had great teaching skills, and as such, she was fortunate enough to attend Teacher’s College in San Salvador. On her return home, she joined the staff of the then Salt Cay Primary School, now the Mary Robinson Primary School.
As her Teaching years multiplied, and with her pursuance of further studies in Education and Human Resource Management Regionally and Internationally, she upgraded her knowledge and skills. As a result, Mrs. Been’ s span within the Education System of the Turks and Caicos Islands grew vastly.
Not only did she serve at the Mary Robinson Primary School in Salt Cay, the Ona Glinton Primary School in Grand Turk, and also at the Adelaide Oemler Primary School in North Caicos, but in addition to being a classroom Teacher, Mrs. Been was fortunate to hold other key positions such as Deputy Director of Education, Education Officer, and Curriculum Officer. Often her roles, among other things, involved supervising Teachers, hosting Workshops, reviewing Curricula, managing textbooks for the Primary Schools, and effective executing administrative duties at the Department of Education.
To date, Mrs. Been has been the recipient of several Awards. She wows that despite her retirement, she will continue to give assistance and service to the Education Sector, and indeed, the entire the Turks and Caicos Islands wherever she can.
