  SIS. YOLITA FERREIRA
“Art doesn’t give rise to anything in us that isn’t already there. It simply stirs our curious consciousness and sparks a fire that illuminates who we have always wanted to be.” ― Kamand Kojouri
The above quote is mostly what guides Sis. Yolita Ferreira – the Director for the Dance Ministry at Abundant Life Ministries International. This passion for the performing arts has been imbedded in her from quite a tender age. Not only is that passion burns perpetually for dance, it equally does for singing, making her the unique and effervescent songbird that she is.
Sis. Yolita has been dancing from the time she was able to walk. Before she was five years old she was performing nationally in her native Guyana, representing her schools`.
She is an eclectic on this wonderful dance periphery, having been able to master various dance genres, including Ballet, African and Caribbean.
“Even though I was involved in many activities at school and at church, my passion has always been dancing and singing.” She revealed.
“From the early age of two, I was a part of the National School of Dance, where I was exposed and trained in ballet, modern dance, African dance, calypso and other Caribbean dance forms of movement,” she continued.
Currently employed as a teacher at the Wesley Methodist School in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, Sis. Yolita leads the Performing Arts Club.
“In this Club, students are molded and their skills honed with performances at various churches and secular functions.
“As a member of the ALMI, I serve on the Worship Team and lead a most amazing, energetic and inspiring group of girls from the ALMI Dance Ministry,” she said.
At Abundant Life, she is revered for her uncanny ability to almost effortlessly teach even toddlers the art of dancing. She has approximately 30 budding dancers under her wings at Abundant Life, who are only too happy to be with her on a dance day.
Like the students she leads at Wesley Methodist, her Abundant Life International dancers are also a hot commodity, often requested by other churches to do guest performances.
The dance extraordinaire was a main pioneer behind the Turks and Caicos Islands’ first National Inter Schools Dance Competition two years ago, which all the participating schools, the judges and other organizers dubbed a smashing success.
She reveals that performing, especially dancing, is her happy place, and that is the reason behind her sharing that happiness with so many, who, too, are only too blissful to tap into her reservoir of rich natural talent.
