AtlanTc Hurricane Season 2019
Fellow Turks and Caicos Islanders, as we prepare for the 2019 Atlan@c Hurricane Season I would like to remind you of the old saying, “it only takes one”.
This year, forecasters predict a close to normal hurricane season with an average of 12 named storms, six of which, will become hurricanes and three that will become major hurricanes. Despite this predic@on, it is important that we prepare for any
occurrences. Prepara@on simply means having a plan no maSer how basic. Through planning, our families and communi@es will come through safely, with minimal damage to property and life helping to ensure speedy recovery.
The Turks and Caicos Islands is no stranger to this hazard, hence it is crucial for us to take the @me now to prepare, I encourage all to pay keen aSen@on to announcements from the Department of Disaster Management and Emergency (DDME) the country’s lead agency in this forum and other suppor@ng Government agencies.
My Government and Ministry remains
commiSed to mi@ga@on of hazards and in the event of a disaster, the rapid mobiliza@on of resources for business con@nuity and in general the quick return to normalcy. Thanks to the many volunteers led by the DDME for their con@nued commitment for a comprehensive approach to disaster management, your work is truly appreciated by the na@on.
May Almighty God con@nue to be our guide as we prepare for the unexpected and con@nue to bless our ‘Beau@ful by Nature’ Turks and Caicos Islands.
