“Do we really need to keep the fuel subsidies,
as we are faced with revenue challenges?” Dan
Agbor asks. “The short answer is no. But we
need buffers to protect the poorest in our
society, as a removal will affect not only the
cost of transportation but also the cost of
goods like food products. Many people who
don’t need subsidies benefit from it, but
there are many who do need it,” Hon. Minister
Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed says.
“Special emphasis is being placed on
agriculture and food security, stabilising the
macroeconomic environment, expanding
MSMEs, and building our energy,
transportation and other infrastructure. Also,
we are keen on developing mass housing,
which has not been a focus of prior
governments, as well as the development of
consumer credit systems.”
