special's release this week, Ryan is all about the challenge of winning over

audiences who don't really know who she is.

So much so, in fact, that after touring the show that became Glitter Room in

the United Kingdom, she came to Los Angeles to film it in America without

               having toured it there.

Andrew Husband: Why did you shoot Glitter Room in L.A.? Was
it more convenient with filming The Fix, or was there another

               reason?

Katherine Ryan: I think it was good to challenge myself and film it outside
the U.K., because I've gotten really comfortable there. I'm quite spoiled in

the U.K., because people come to see me on purpose. But I actually really

wanted the opportunity to tour more internationally, and I like the

challenge of having to win over people who have no idea who I am.

Even when we were filming The Fix. One day, Jimmy was introducing D. L.
Hughley, who everybody knows and loves. He introduced us before every

show, and this one specific day, everyone cheered, "D. L. Hughley yeah!"

And when Jimmy said, "and Katherine Ryan," there was utter silence —

apart from one lady who just went, "Who?" I liked that. I got to like that, I

thought. That's what keeps you on your toes. That's why I like always
having to win over new audiences.

AH: You're best known in the U.K., but with In Trouble two years

ago and The Fix in December, how has your American reception
changed? Are American audiences tuning in more than they did

               before?

KR: It's really a constantly evolving experience. People find things on

Netflix. They have more access to international programming or comedy.

So, just because In Trouble came out years ago, loads of people in little
