Having delved into the depths of her family past, Ryan revealed that her outlook
about Canada changed due to the way her ancestors worked and lived.
"I’ve slagged off Canada in my stand-up routines a lot in the past. But I realised that I
need to be careful about what I say, because my ancestors worked really hard to
survive in really harsh conditions. I didn’t realise my roots in the country were so
deep and in the 1800s, my relatives ran a cod-packing business on the coast of
Newfoundland. That gave me a new respect for how tough and industrious they must
have been," What's On TV reported her saying.
However, Ryan got more than she bargained for when she returned to Canada to
film the episode as she reunited with her first boyfriend Bobby Kootstra during her
stay in her hometown of Sarnia.
Recalling the serendipitous moment, Ryan told the Mirror: “During filming I went for a
night out with my sister and bumped into my first love Bobby – we dated for about a
year when I was fifteen and then we split.”
The couple are now together and are living in London.
