space’ and Yoon Hyung-geun is called the painter of ‘silence.’ Monochrome’s
aesthetics is said to be physicality, but Yoon Hyung-geun’s monochrome
points to the spiritual elements that imply the concepts of ‘eternity’ and ‘time,’
and Lee Woo-hwan emphasizes ‘the beauty of (blank) space,’ and these two
painters overcome the iimitations of minimalism in Eastern thought. Therefore,
monochrome painting and monochrome clearly have different characteristics.

                                   3. Epilogue

Heidegger said, “Art works are the source of artists and have a certain object
character. Elements of stone and wood exist in architecture and sculpture, and
elements of oil, pigments, and canvas exist in oil paintings. Furthermore, there is
an echo of language in literary works, and sound exists in musical works, and all
of which have the characteristics of objects.” Nietzsche said, “Art works enhance
vitality, ignite desire, and stimulate all kinds of subtle retrospections of intoxica-
tion.” “Not just things that develop, but things that do not develop like an ‘object
itself,’ that is, everything that exists is ‘Object-hood’” Heidegger named.

However, an artist’s work is not just an object but symbolically exists, as it has
the characteristics of each individual work’s ‘symbols’ and ‘allegories.’ There-
fore, Kim Youn-hee’s work seems to be similar to a series of monochrome artists,
but she is an artist whose work has subtle differences and aesthetic characteristics
between ‘symbols’ and ‘allegories’ as monochrome painting which is unique to her.

Kim Youn-hee is an artist with a very good capacity and sense. As I have person-
ally confirmed it several times in her individual exhibitions, it is clear that she is
an artist who has passion for her work and is very focused. However, in order to
be evaluated as a better work, I think the evaluation of ‘my own theme’ and ‘my
own method’ should be considered to be included.

The style and concept of the times are important to keep up with the trend of the
times, but this alone does not mean that we can make a good work or become
a good artist. If a work is too stylish, its concept becomes vague and its qual-
ity slips. So a good work does not pursue a style. Because pursuing a style is a
‘fashion.’ Therefore, I think this is why contemporary art finds the reason for its
existence in deep-rooted humanities. The works by Park Soo-geun, Kim Hwan-
ki, Yoon Hyung-geun, and Ha Jong-hyun are all evaluated as good works because
they all have their own ‘theme’ and expression ‘method.’

Finally, contemporary art should be able to produce a peculiar ‘irony.’ The irony
is a method used to show the contradictory truth of incongruity using paradoxi-
cal and ironic expressions. In other words, it is a method that is well used to show
a simple one-sided truth. A picture of the sorrowful and tragic scene shows the
coexistence of confrontational terms such as sweetness and sorrow, pleasure
and displeasure, and immersion and resistance through an ‘irony’ of content
