C.U.R.E.
PROJECT
When Economist and Real Estate Developer Dr. James Jackson visited Brazil in 1987, he saw first-hand the lack of basic medical supplies and equipment limiting health care delivery and made a resolve to do something about it. Over the following months, Dr. Jackson collected approximately $250,000 worth of donated medical supplies and sent a cargo container of medical supplies to Brazil with the goal of making a difference. The rest is history.
Today, Project C.U.R.E., which stands for Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment, is a major nonprofit, humanitarian relief organization that delivers donated medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics throughout the developing world. It’s led by Dr. Jackson’s son Douglas, a former college professor in San Diego, who agreed to help his father for six months and is still going strong at Project C.U.R.E. after 17 years. Overall, the organization’s goal is to deliver health and hope to the world.
Since its first shipment to Brazil, Project C.U.R.E. has grown to be the world’s largest distributor of donated medical supplies to resource-limited communities and has distribution centers in Denver (the international headquarters), Houston, Phoenix, Nashville, Kansas City, Philadelphia and Chicago. Through these distribution centers, and with the help of more than 25,000 volunteers, medical supplies are delivered to more than 130 countries around the globe.
“Our firefighters, nurses, doctors and public servants needed our help, and we wanted to join in solidarity as they served us. When our state and local government agencies call and request our resources, we always will be here to protect the
lives of our first responders and medical professionals.”
