EXTENSION PROGRAM PLAN
1. Title of the Program and Description
“Mediating Work-Related-Ergonomic Injuries, Risks and Hazards
among PUV Drivers”
Driving a public utility vehicle is a common occupational task among
Filipinos. Maintaining daily public transport is a challenging task in order to
efficiently perform such a responsibility, Public utility drivers require driving
skills and knowledge to deliver safe public transportation. The prolonged
continuous sitting posture maintained by the PUV drivers while driving for
longer periods of time can take a physical toll on the body, which puts them
at risk of developing musculoskeletal-related disorders. Hence, this program
is proposed and designed to enhance awareness of ergonomic-related
hazards among PUV drivers. These hazards include awkward or static
posture, the use of high forces, repetitive motion, or a short interval
between activities. Other factors include equipment layout and operation,
lifting, pushing, and pulling (manual handling), lighting, noise, work station
design and height, and lastly, task, job, and workplace design.
