            Benefits of Reading

As an intellectual object, a book is prototypically a composition of such great length that it takes a
considerable investment of time to write and a still significant, though not so extensive, investment
time to browse. In the restricted sense, a publication is a self-sufficient section or part of a longer
composition, a usage that reflects the fact that, in antiquity, long works had to be written on several
scrolls, and every scroll had to be identified by the book it contained. Therefore, for instance, each
component of Aristotles Physics is called a book. From the unrestricted sense, a book is your
compositional whole of which these sections, whether called chapters or books or components, are
            components.

The intellectual content in a physical book need not be a composition, nor be called a book. Novels
can consist only of drawings, engravings, or photos, or such matters as crossword puzzles or cut-
out dolls. At a physical book, the pages can be left blank or may contain an abstract set of lines as
service for continuing entrances, e.g., an account book, an appointment book, an autograph book,
a laptop, a diary, or a sketchbook. Some bodily books are made out of pages thick and sturdy
enough to support other physical items, like a scrapbook or photograph album. Books could be
distributed in digital form as e-books along with other formats.

Although in ordinary academic parlance that a monograph is known to be a professional academic
work, instead of a reference work on a single scholarly topic, in library and information science
monograph describes more broadly any non-serial book complete in one volume (book) or a finite
number of volumes (even a publication like Prousts seven-volume In Search of Lost Time), in
contrast to serial publications like a magazine, journal, or newspaper. A passionate reader or
collector of novels is a bibliophile or colloquially,"bookworm". A shop where books are bought and
sold is a bookshop or bookstore. Novels are also sold elsewhere. Books can also be borrowed
from libraries. Google has estimated that as of 2010, approximately 130,000,000 different titles had
been published. In some wealthier countries, the sale of published books has decreased because
of the increased usage of e-books.

In the 2000s, due to the rise in availability of cheap handheld computing devices, the opportunity to
share texts via digital means became an appealing option for media publishers. The expression e-
book is a contraction of"electronic book"; it refers to some book-length publication in digital form.
An e-book is usually made available through the world wide web, but also on CD-ROM and other
forms. E-Books might be read either via a computing device with an LED display like a traditional
computer, a smartphone or a tablet pc; or by way of a portable e-ink screen device known as an e-
book reader, like the Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, Kobo eReader, or the Amazon Kindle.
E-book readers try to mimic the experience of reading a print book by employing this technology,
because the screens onto e-book readers are much less reflective.
