• Maintain a constant ratio of Fe+3/Fe+2 (FeCl3/FeCl2)
• Keep the dissolved metal concentration constant
• Keep the free hydrochloric acid constant

• The primary regeneration control and the most dynamic parameter
• AKA: Redox or ORP
• Measures the Fe+3/Fe+2 ratio
• Determines when the etching solution needs regeneration ie. more chlorine (Activates the actual regeneration process)
