SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH
Dwight Oats Machine Operator-3, RIV15
Tell me a little more about how you started with Loram, how did you hear about the job, which posi-
tions you have held?
I heard about Loram through an internet search while seeking new employment in 2019. I have worked as a GL on
the mainline grinding machines then moved into rail grinding inspection in 2021.
What do you enjoy most about working at Loram?
Seeing new places and meeting new people.
What is your favorite memory from this past year?
Inspecting rail through the Rockies and waiting for mountain goats to clear the track.
Where is your hometown and what is the best thing about it?
Hometown is Portugal Cove-St. Philips in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It’s absolutely gorgeous with the
friendliest, kindest people anywhere. Oh, and whales, and icebergs, and the world’s best fish’n chips.
Do you have any hobbies?
I like to cook, garden and woodwork in my spare time off at home.
What is something about yourself that would surprise your coworkers?
I like some of my 19-year-old son’s “rap” / hip hop music while also listening to Beethoven recordings made by my
wife.
What is the biggest challenge you face on the
road and how does it affect your life?
Missing my wonderful wife and my sons. Eating well
can be challenging too.
What is the best advice anyone has given you,
and who was it from?
My grandmother. “If you can't say anything nice, don't
say anything at all".
What advice would you give a new employee at
Loram?
Please spend time exploring all the support found around you with Loram.
How do you pass time when you get a day off?
Explore the local area I'm inspecting in. For example, I enjoyed doing a portion of the River Walk in Milwaukee a few
weeks ago.
What has been your favorite city you have been to while working at Loram and why?
I really enjoy inspecting in the Kamloops, British Columbia area. Wonderful place!
