The blazing sun, the scorching heat
Relentlessly, the strain permeates
In silence they stand their ground
So all of us could move around
in comfort; yet we groan
Why the roadblocks? Leave us alone!

The layers of material they must wear
To give to us undivided care
Moving as fast as they possibly can
To save the life of yet another man
The toil, fatigue, anguish and frustration
Are put aside - for, ‘first, comes the nation’.
The days go by the numbers rise

Some news of life and some, demise
S o m e n e s o f l e a d s o e e i e
They go on still, hearts full of purpose
Oblivion to praises, much more to curses
The rewards are few and far between
The tears they shed so often unseen.
They too have their secret wishes
And dreams that all this crazy madness

That's taken over the entire globe

Will end, and bring with it renewed hope
Of no more masks and no more grief
(“That day will come” I must believe!)
With that for now they must persevere
Putting aside all worries and fear
They tell themselves “For God, For Country”

Instilled in their hearts, - ‘It’s my call of Duty’

With a will and hope ever so fervent
With a spirit and might extremely resilient.
Such strength within their battered souls
Is a story that often goes untold
But they too have hopes of victory
Against this invisible enemy

With this one hope they soldier on-
That one day Covid will be gone.
