MEETING OF THE SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS COMMITTEE (SEC)
                                             DECEMBER 2017 MEETING

               SEC (11E) 2017
               CXC (1.15E) 2017

                                             ESTIMATES OF ENTRIES TO THE
                                                  CAPE® 2018 SITTING

               Subject Entry

               1. The May-June 2018 sitting for certification in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency
Examination (CAPE®) will involve examinations in 67 Units.

               2. The attached estimates for 2018 show that subject entries are projected to decrease
to 115,040 which is about 2.7 per cent under the 2017 entries of 118,235.

               3. Entries for Integrated Mathematics and Environmental Science Unit 2 are expected
to rise by 36 per cent and 19 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, a significant
reduction in entries is expected for Literatures in English Unit 1 (33 per cent) and Pure
Mathematics Unit 1 (24 per cent). Most of the New Generation subjects including
Animation and Game Design, Entrepreneurship and Tourism are projected to have large
percentage increases but their overall contribution to the total subject entries will remain
               small.

               Candidate Entry

               4. The application of the 2017 ratio of approximately 4.05 Units per candidate to the
total subject entry gives an estimated candidate entry of 28,405 which is 791 (2.71 per cent)
less than the 2017 figure of 29,196.

               5. SEC and Council are invited to note the estimates of CAPE® entries for the May-June
               2018 sitting.
