TANABATA (STAR FESTIVAL)
MS. BAISALI PHANI (TEACHER)
According to legends, each year in the month of July, the Weaver Star and the Cow herder Star
traverse the Milky Way to renew their ancient bond of love. In Japan, this day is celebrated
with lively decorations and wishes written on long, narrow coloured strips of paper. This is the
Tanabata (Star Festival).
The children of LKG made a ‘Tanabata wish Tree’ with old newspapers and coloured papers.
On the tree they hung cut-outs of emojis with happy emotions. The children coloured
wor ksheets describing the various aspects of the festival. The children of UKG also joined them
to decorate the ‘Tanabata Wish Tree’.
