money by the government and of substantial aid by missions and
missionaries. I have often dreaded ihe time when it would reach
Bahrein which I felt sure it would since there is no sanitary pre-
caution. The chief and his native advisers are ignorant of the
advantages of segregation, quarantine and of modern methods of
treatment, and prejudiced against many of these things by reason
of their religion.

OPERATING ROOM IN BAHREIN HOSPITAL.

Shortly after the plague broke out some of our enemies did
their best to spread reports that the Christians had poisoned wells
etc., and these reports gained credence for a time. However, the
testimony of those who were benefited and God’s blessing on our
efforts, are restoring confidence and we believe the pestilence will
yet prove a blessing to the work.
