Ruler oT Bahrain,
\.c.
In continuation.of ray official letter I writo you in
a friendly way to advise- you to obey tho instructions of
tho High government if you wish to avoid their serious
displeasure. '
in this friendly letter I answor tho points mentioned
in- your Jotter of tho 8th gi-Qadeh.
Firstly, you state that you had erxpoctod that the
Government would hav.e given you a chance to express your
viows on tho question. My friend, you forget that our
friend Major Dickson discussed tho matter with you at
length and took down all your objections and subnitted
thorn to me so far back as last February and I sent them
on to Government.
I must observe that tho Treaty regarding Dayment of
5$ duty on goods for British subjects in Bahrain applies ■
to goods destined for Bahrain and remaining thero and no.t
to goods in transit for other places. This argument is
therefore entirely irrelevant. How would merchants in
t
Bahrain like it if when, they order goods from Europe direc
tho full Indian duty wore charged at Bombay toses* simply

the duty .on cargo landed. If the High Government had
g.ivon you instructions to act in tho same way and chk'rgeV.^
