*Tho figures in tbo last column of tho table have been obtained by excluding those
for Truoial’Oman up to uud including tho year 1901-02, as during that period all
pearls from Trpcial ’Oman wero exported through Lingeh and wore therefore included
in tho exports of that place. In 1902-03 and in 1903*04, however, only about £ and
-l respectively of the produce of Trucial ’Oman wore exported through Liugoh j the
remainder in thoso years and tho whole in 1904-05 were exported direct. The
interchange of pearls between the other emporia has boon neglected (except in tho
year 1905-06, whero it is allowed for) as it is insignificant and is, moreover,
probably oountorvailed by a quantity of poarls escaping registration. The Masqat
dollar from 1873-74 to 1S96-97 inclusive has been convortcd at the rate of
          § 1 = Rs. 2 and from 1897-98 to 1904-06 at tho rate of $3 s= Rs. 4. Rupoes
have been converted at tho averngo sterling rate prevailing in India in oach year.
Tho statistics for the Arabian side dopend on tho amount of businoss known to
have boon transacted by individual mcrohauts; thoso for the Persian sido aro basod
ou tho Customs returns. In both cases tho figures aro probably below tho truth,
in cousoquonco of omissions and intentional undervaluations.
