Mr Hammond presents his compliments to Mr Merlvale, and, in reply to
his letter of yesterday's date, regrets to say that the Postscript
to the India Office letter of the 3ist of December last, being
written on the inner page of the sheet, was entirely overlooked, and
that the documents enclosed In it were forwarded to Mr. Alison in
the despatch, of which a copy was sent to the India Office on the
1st of February, with instructions to return them to this Office.
Mr. Hammond begs however to enclose a copy of a short memorandum
made at the time with reference to Colonel Pelly's proceedings as
described In those documents.
