                   Aqal Rasool Razizadoh remained as Director of Agrl-
          -eulture till the first week of December, when he r»s suspen­
          se* and an employeec of the Agriculture Department, Dr.Jidd-
          -ldi# off lo iated till tho end of the year#
                   During the yosr under reoort the harvest ^as excellent,
          and It is said the yield was the boat for half a century.       The
          Government 'ambaro1 at tho end of the year had a stcok of 987
          tons of wheat and 671 tono of barley as against 30 tons at the
          sane  time during 1942. The sowings at the enc of the year were
          considerably more than lest year, in spite of lack of rain.
          Cotton «   Tho cotton crop was poorer than that of 1942 swing to
          damage by locusts,    In several areas the cotton seed was sown
          three times but destroyed by locusts each time.

          Rie e.     The poppy crop, in the year under review was believed
          to be as good as in the previous year, but the Government were
          unable to collect more than 1250 maunds of raw opium, the rest,
          nearly ten times more, being smuggled and disposed of at great
          profit. The Government's purchase price rose fren Rials 700/-
          per maund at the beginning of the year to Kials 100o/- a nauni
          towards the end.
                     IN September tho sale of opium was controlled; issue
          was made tn a coupon system allowing six raisc&ls a month to
          opium smokers and three misqals to opium eaters, and the rate
          wa3 raised from 5 rials a raiscal to 1.0 rials. The smuggled
          opium rate was almost .^qual to that of Government till the ecn-
          -trol on sale was instuted, when the rate of smuggied opium
          rose to double that o 1? the Government rate viz. rials 128C0/-
          a icaund as 9Inst riels 6400/-
          jlat«r_ Sunply of Aprnan. The question of bringing water to
          ^sraan from the Chari river about 20 miles south east of Herman,
          wnich v/as taken up in 1942 has been shelved for the present
          owing to financial stringency.

              (i) Khurshld Snlnnln* Mills#        The firm fcas a capital of
          24217 shares, each of Rials 500/-     450 tGns of raw cotton are
          required annually to run the mills. At the beginning of the
          year the Ministry of Industry allotted a consignment of 303 tons
          Jer the mills, but 70 tons of this allotment were not delivered.
