          from the town and district of Bandar Abbas.The Incidence of
          the disease fell off with the approaching summer.The town and
          district were again infected with small pox epidemic during
          the last quarter of the year.
          INDUSTRY.
                    The spinning mill was well supplied with raw cotton
          from the interior and owing to the great demand for cotton
          thread the mill was worked day and night.
                    The Mines Department were not very active owing to
          lack of demand for the red oxide at Hormuz.Only one consign­
          ment of 400 tons was shipped to India during this year.About
          7000 tons of red oxide is awaiting shipment at Hormuz.
          FISH CANNING FACTORY.
                    The factory operated as usual for 6 months of the
          year from November to April.Production was small owing to
          shortage of oil and difficulty in obtaining regular supplies
          of fish which was the result of a shortage of launches to
          bring the fish from Qishm.
          ECONOMIC CONDITIONS.
                               The cost of living rose to a high level.
          The harvest was good but prices of essential foodstuffs re­
          mained at a high level.
                                V.MILITARY.
           Sargurd Kavusi was in command of the Bandar Abbas garrison
          throughout the year.The local garrisson is a detachment of
          the Kerman Regiment.There is nothing of importance to report.

          GENDARMERIE.
                       Servan Parchara was in command throughout the year
          and occupied himself in bringing into the Gendarmeriee a num­
          ber of local brigand leaders including Hassan Ahmed of Kahou-
          ristan and Mustafa Lashkari of Fin.
          INTER]?AL SECURITY.
                              During the first six months of the year the
          roads were unsafe and robberies were frequently reported.After
          Ali Jalal Nik Khah and his associate Taherzai Chiefs Dost Uohd
          and Hassan Yar Mohamed were given an amnesty by the Government
          security improved in the Minab district.
                               VI.COMMUNICATIONS.
          ROADS.
                No new roads were constructed in this area during the
          year.The Bandar Abbas-Kerman road requires repairs after the
          heavy rains during the first quarter of the year.
                The Bandar Abbas-Shiraz road was lit-yLe used during
          this year, owing to lack of transport and security.The road
          is believed to be comparatively good.
                             VII.SHIPPING.
                Steamers with an aggregate             tons(gross) entered
          and cleared at the port of Bandar Abbas during 1943.
