Partial failure of the “Barih” or “ Shemal 99 wind, which usually
blows in the Persian Gulf from the end of May to well on in July, caused
the summer to be unusually hot and trying. It is a theory of some
Datives that failure of north-westerly strong winds is followed by fail­
ure of rain in winter. The past winter was marked by unusually slight
rainfall, though the average temperature was as low as ordinary.
