During the hot weather this year the prevailing climatic conditions were
locally regarded as being of exceptional severity. Muscat and Mat rah were
evacuated by all, rich and poor alike, who were not compelled by circumstances
to remain. Both towns resembled cities of the dead.
The Agency Hospital was daily crowded with multitudes afflicted with boils,
blaiins and sores directly attributable to the abnormal conditions. Several cases
of heat stroke were reported amongst local inhabitants and one serious case of
this nature occurcd in the Agency Hospital.
