                 (n) During the absence of Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon Loch C I E
             on leave and while he was officiating as Political Resident in the Persian
             Gulf, Captain G. A. Cole, Assistant Political Agent, officiated at Political
             Agent, Bahrain.
                 (iii) Assistant Political Agent.—Mr. M. Worth, I.C.S., held charge of
             the post of Assistant Political Agent, Bahrain, until the 21st February
             when he proceeded on leave.                                    ’
                 Captain G. A. Cole arrived from India on the 16th March, and
             assumed charge as Assistant Political Agent, Bahrain.   He relieved
             Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon Loch, C.I.E., as officiating Political Agent
             from the 27th March, to the 28th October, after which he reverted as Assist­
             ant Political Agent.
                Lieutenant R. D. Metcalfe arrived from Bushire on the 22nd April
            and assumed charge as officiating Assistant Political Agent. Lieutenant
            R. D. Metcalfe left for India on the 23rd October.
                (iv) Indian Assistant. Khan Bahadur ’Abdul Haiy al Hashimi held
            charge of the office of Indian Assistant until the 11th November when he
            proceeded to India on leave. He was relieved by Doctor S. M. Siddiq,
            M.A., M.O.L., Ph.D.
                2. Ruler of Bahrain and Al Khalifah Family.—His Excellency Shaikh’
            Hamad bin ’Isa Al Khalifah. Rules of Bahrain, was created an Honorary
            Knight Commander of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire in
            the New Year’s Honours List. The news caused deep satisfaction in
            Bahrain. His Excellency has been on the best of terms with the Agency
            throughout the year. His Excellency Shaikh Sir Hamad bin ’Isa Al
            Khalifah celebrated the second anniversary of his accession to the Rulership
            of Bahrain by declaring the 19th, 20th and 21st January public holidays.
                Saikh Muhammad bin ’Isa Al Khalifah paid a visit to Syria, Palestine
            and E«rpt during the summer and Shaikh ’Abdullah bin ’Isa Al Khalifah
            went to the mainland in November and December on two lengthy hawking
            expeditions.
                Shaikh Muhammad has been President of the Manamah Municipality
            throughout the year. Shaikh ’ Abdullah has been President of the Muharraq
            Municipality and has also held charge of the Department of Education of




           proved himself useful on a number of occasions.
               Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifah the Ruler s eldest son, has
