                   Sir,

I have the honour to transmit to Your Excellency
herewith a copy of the Annual Report of the Bahrain
Government for the year from October 1952 to
                   September 1953 - the Hejira year 1 ’5712.
                         2. The report, which is a well-written
document, gives a full picture of the development of

Bahrain during the year, Most space is devoted to .
                   public health, education, municipalities, police‘and
public security, public wrks, and finance.
                         3. It appears that the Public Health Service
has only existed as such for a year although a
medical department, concerned mainly with hospital

work, had existed for a long time, Attention is
drawn, in the section on Female Statistics, to the
growing need for increased accommodation for women
                   patients.

                         4. The section on Education contains some
interesting comments. Referring to the increased
number of schools in the villages, it remarks that

                                                          /village

His Excellency, Mr. B.A.B. Burrows, C.M.G.,
                  Her Majesty's Political Resident
                                         in the Persian Gulf,
                          Bahrain.
