I have now returned to Bushire and
leave for Koweit end of the montho On 26th May, I held
mo ills which v/as well attended by representat ives of all
classes at Bahrein,, including Ai Khalifa family,, Down sir
and other tribesmeno These last* though urged to attend
mo ll If. by Sheikhs Hamad and Abdulla, consulted Sheikh

thereby acquiescing to an unexpected extent in the
proceedings Proceedings opened with speeches by Hamad
well and fluently delivered by his brother Muhammad in
which Sheikh IcJtefully empowered agent announced his
intention of ruling and carrying on his father's policy
of working for the good of the people under Al Khalifa
rule* 6tating that ho relied confidently on help promised
1dm by his brother Abdulla and by the Britioh Government,,
to which Al Khalifa family were steadfastly loyalc I
followed,, speaking in praise of Sheikh Isavs rule of 55
years8 dwelling on the difficulties that surrounded hlm0
especially at outset*and stating that thore was nothing
to wonder at that, at the age of 750he had found himself
unwilling to enter upon stony paths of reforms which
would mean constant struggle with petty tyrannies and
independent communities that had grown up during the
latter years of Ids lack of rule* as I preferred to call

necessary to introduce new blood.and forbid Sheikh Isa°u
