                                  I havo tho honour to roport that on tho ovoning of Monday, thn 14th instant,
                              a most sarious assault was committed by fcqy Horvant.H nf Shaikhi All bin Ahmed
                              nl Klmlifali and other Arabs on tho family of Ilnji Abdul Nabriinzoroonl And
                              other iunooont Persians who ohancod to fall in tlioic way, with tho rosult that
                              two respectablo Persians—tho fathor and hrothor of Abdul Nubi—havo boqn
                              dangerously woundod and soven other Porsiaus less seriously so.
                                  2.  Tho facts of tho oaso, as reportod by my Arab Munshi after thorough
                              enquiry, are as follows. The disturbance aroso through a Persian servant of
                              Uaji Abdul Nabi and a Nflgio_ servant of Slioikh Ali bin Alunod brushing
                              against onoli other in a narrowlarmot mo uazaar unintontionau)fT‘,Tho Nogro

                              thorn, using his stick freely, aud in a fow momenta othors of his companions had
                              commonooa copying his cxamplo. Uaji Abdul Nabi, who is tho monopolist of
                              tho cargo-landing business, tho contruot for whioh ho holds widor tho Ohiof’s
                              Wazior Abdur Itahman, oame running up to suhduo tho disturbance, but his
                              iufluonco failed to stand him in good stead, aud ho found hiuisolf cotnpollod
                              to flee backvtn hishouso to save his life. By this timo a number of Suunis had
                              joinod in tho oxcitemont coaling out of an adjaoont rnosquo, the Mullah of whioh

                                 3.  Hnji Abdul Nabi, pursued by an infuriated mob, was ablo to find safety
                              in the midst of women, but his old fathor, aged 80 years, and his hrothor woro
                              caught, draggod out of tho houso and most brutally assaulted. Tho otiior
                              Persians injured woro mero onlookors, and it is a noticoablo fact that no Arabs
                              woro at all seriously hurt, though at tho prosont moment an “ Xetishhad " is
                              being circulated for signature amongst Arabs to tho offeeb that tho Porsians
                              wero tho aggressors and that a number of Arabs too havo bcoa hurt.
                                 4.  On receiving news of tho affair, which did not last long in an aotivc
                              state owing to tho flight of all the Porsians from tho streots, I immediately
