away with in tho courao of removal. When oxamining the contents of this
godown, our ropresontativo noticocl that two valuablo guns stated in tho inven
tory woro missing and roplaccd by two of our common ordinary Sniders, which
wore novor thoro, which clearly shows that tlio robbery could not have been
raado by any outsido rob hors. The Agent sent word to say that the thief had
boon arrested with implements of houso-breaking and five guns in his posses
sion, but wo do not know up to now who ho was and what was done with him.
A suspicious circumstanoo in connection with this easo is, that tho thiof, who
is alleged to have boon arrosted, instead of being takon to tho Dazaar Master,
was takon to tho Residency Agent, who was tho only person who gavo out tho
report about tho arrost of tho thiof. Wo wrote to tho Sheikh about this thoft,
but, for obvious reasons, ho evadod giviug a plaiu answor to our enquiry.
Tho circumstances connoctod with the two thefts betray a scandalous stato
of afluirs in Bahrein, and tho truth can only bo elicited by a careful enquiry
conducted by sorno responsible officer on tho spot.
In conclusion, wo beg toapologiso for the delay in submitting this claim, as
wo had to await instructions and estimates from our London Pirm, which ouly
arrived a few days ago.
