Nefertiti, wife of the heretic pharaoh Akhenaten, and mother of Ank-
                  hesanamon, is the best known of all the queens of Egypt, solely on ac­
                  count of this portrait bust, from the studios of Akhenaten’s new capital at
                  Tell al-Amarna. If, as is likely, Nefertiti was also Akhenaten’s sister, she
                  came of a long line of queens, and had clearly inherited the beauty and
                  intelligence for which they were famous.
