room enclosed and one adjoining, only arched. Below was the
kitchen ami servants' room, while the cfghtcoa frccd-slavc boys
took what was left. There was no verandah for protection against
tlic sun, and in general such accommodations as would satisfy
only its native owner. This property, after much consultation
and questioning, we bought, and then wore gradually built up
beside it such rooms as were required from time to time. In
1901 the old main part was found ia such poor repair ihat it was
decided to pull it clown and rebuild on a new aiul Ijcttcr plan.
The supervision of this rebuilding has taken a pood sliaro of the
time and thought of the rcsidcnl missionary during tlio two years
just passed, and an idea of the result may be obtained from the
