                    the Gulf lo Musical, induced Syud Sultan to attack Bahrein in 1800;
that compelled by that attack lo seek the protection of the Wahabecs,
they had suffered so much from their tyranny, that of late the Ulloobccs
had endeavoured lo conciliate the Muskat Government, had frequented
the port, and paid duties, as other States. The Imaum had also on every
occasion shown them a preference, and encouraged them; and that the
only obstacle that opposed the conclusion of a solid agreement between
the Uttoobce Arabs and those of Muskat was the want of a guarantee,
who would secure the due performance of it on both sides.
                       29. The Bombay Government entertaining doubts as to now far the
Persians would be equally disposed to come into such a plan as the
Imaum of Muskat, abstained from all interference.
                       30. The Uttoobccs manifested the same disposition, when the
Wahabcc Shaikh, having established his influ
                          a. d. 1809.
ence over the Joasmecs and Muskat, was urging
them to proceed against Granc and Bussora, which they declined.
                       31. The Wahabecs in 1810 assumed the government of Bahrein
and Zobara, and appointed Abdoollabin Oofeysan
                         a. d. 1810-11.
Vukccl over those places, together with the
district of Kateef, and the whole of the Khutler district.
                       32. The Uttoobccs continued in' administration of the island ; they
were, however, obliged lo pay tribute to the Vakeel, who was placed at
Bahrein to convert the Uttoobccs to the Wahabcc faith.
                       33. The successful progress of the Turkish troops under Ibrahim
Pacha having obliged Abdoollabin Saood to collect his adherents and his
troops, the garrisons of Zobara and Bahrein were reduced. The Imaum
seized this opportunity of attacking those places: the former was burnt,
and, landing on the latter place, the Wahabcc Vukccl, Oofeysan, was
made prisoner, and the Uttoobccs recovered possession of the island.
                       34. In 1811 a desperate action would appear to have been fought
by the Uttoobccs and .Rahmah bin Jaubir, who
                         a. d. 1811-12.
was in connection with the Wahabecs, in which
                     the Uttoobccs were victorious.
                       35. In 1813 we find the Uttoobccs of Bahrein offering to co-operate
with a fleet of from fifteen to twenty sail, and

two thousand men, in an expedition which the
Imaum contemplated against Ras-ool-Khyma, and proposed to join
His Highness at the port of the Heza Arabs, a little to the eastward of
Aboolhabcc, and between it and Ras-ool-Khyma.
                       36. Mr. Bruce having proceeded to Bahrein, for the purpose of
                                           ascertaining more correctly the engagements
