In March 1935 when His Excellency the Minister of Education visited
Kerman, he inspected the school and examined some of the classes. He
expressed himself as pleased with all he saw, and promised recognition of
the school with permission to develop normal work if desired. He also
promised the help of Government teachers, but owing to local shortage of
suitable masters, no help has been given so far.
The School Company of Girl Guides has been revived, but at present it is
working unofficially and without uniform. The Government has started
an organisation for Persian Guides and steps arc being taken to link the
Company to the Persian organization, instead of to the International
Guides in London.
Miss Woodroffc states that in her dealings with the local educational
authorities, she has always been treated with civility and encouragement.
(d) Medical.—Doctor I. W. Pigott who relieved Doctor G. E. Dodson
when he went on leave left for the United Kingdom early in August and was
succeeded by Doctor (Miss) Charis Pigott (now Mrs. Iliff) pending the return
of Doctor 6. E. Dodson, who arrived towards the end of October. The

During the year the health of the town was fairly good, and there was
no recurrence, during the Spring and early summer, of the Typhus fever
which had been prevalent for 2 or 3 months in the three preceding years, nor
was Whooping Cough so prevalent as in the last two years.

The Welfare Centre, a branch of the Medical Mission in the town in the
charge of Miss Robinson assisted by three Iranian women midwives was
open throughout the year. Regular ante-natal instruction was given to
expectant mothers followed by further teaching during convalescence.

5. The Anglo-Iranian Oil Company Limited.—Aqayi Jalil Khan
Suhai remained in charge throughout the year. The business of the
company continued to increase. The Company has no competition to meet.
