CHAPTER I.
           ADMINISTRATION REPORT FOR BUSHIRE AND HINTERLAND FOR
                                           1940.
                                        SECTION 1.
               Personnel.—The undermentioned officers held appointments as stated during
           the year.
               Political Resident and Consul-General.—Licut.-Colonel C. G. Prior, C.I.E.,
           throughout the year.

               Secretary and Consul.—Captain A. C. Stewart, throughout the year.
               Vice-Consul.—Mr. C. R. Latimer, I.C.S., from 1st January to 3rd October
           1940, when he relinquished charge of the Vice-Consulate and proceeded to Kerman
           vice Major G. A. Falconer.
               Mr. Latimer returned to Bushire on the 29th November 1940, and remained
           in charge of the Vice-Consulate to the end of the year.
               Under Secretary to the Political Resident.—Mr. R. G. Daubeny from 1st January
            to the 6th December 1940, when he relinquished charge and proceeded to Khor-
            ramshahr to replace Captain A. Napier as Vice-Consul.

               Mr. E. E. Thomas, from 7th December to the end of the year.
               Residency Surgeon.—Lieut.-Colonel J. J. Rooney, I.M.S.; throughout the year.
               Assistant Surgeon.—Dr. R. Easey, throughout the year.

               Confidential Assistant.—Mr. J. Croning, M.B.E., from 1st January to the 21st
            April.
               Mr. E. E. Thomas, from 22nd April to the 6th December.
               Mr. N. Lester, from 7th December to the end of the year.

               Registrar and Treasury Officer.—Rao Sahib S. R. Aiyer, from 1st January to
            the 13 th May.
               Mr. E. A. Tanner, from 14th May to the end of the year.
               Assistant Registrar.—Mr. D. J. Stephens from 1st January to the 6th December.
               Rao Sahib S. R. Aiyer, from 7th December to the end of the year.

               Assistant Engineer.—Mr. Sayid Ghulam Murtaza, throughout the year.
                                       SECTION 2.

                            A.—FOREIGN REPRESENTATIVES.
               French.—The French Consulate remained vacant throughout the year.
               Russian.—The Russian Consulate remained vacant throughout the year.

               On the 9th September M. Paul Andrcvich Serbckov, Secretary to the Russian
           Legation in Tehran, accompanied by M. Alexandre Antipov, Russian Trade Repre­
           sentative, came to Bushire and proceeded to Shiraz after a day’s stay.
               German.—The Office of the Deutsche Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft
           Hansa, at Bushire, remained in charge of an Iranian clerk.
