APPENDIX I.
NOTES ON THE WORKING OF THE RESIDENCY DISPENSARY, BUSHIRE,
FOll THE YEAR 1940.
1. Lt.-Colcnel J. J. Rooney, I.M.S., was in charge throughout the year.
2. 1st Class Assistant Surgeon R. Easey, I.M.D., was in sub-charge through
out the year.
3. Nothing of note occurred in Bushire during the year. In March and April,
there was a severe epidemic of smallpox at Borazjan, forty miles away, on the main
road to the interior of Iran. Some imported cases were reported in Bushire.
General vaccination was carried out and the town escaped any threat of an
epidemic.
4. Climatically, the year was an average one for the Persian Gulf and the rain
fall was adequate.
5. The numbers of admissions and attendances compared with those of 1939
were as follows :—

6. Malaria, as in previous years, was the most prevalent disease. No anti-
malarial measures are undertaken by the local Health authorities.
7. A small branch dispensary was opened at Sabzabad in April. This is at
tended by the Residency employees, their families and others from the nearby
villages. The Assistant Surgeon sees cases there daily.
