It's no wonder La Locanda is the UK's most awarded Italian Restaurant outside of London. An institution in itself, chef Maurizio with the help of his wife Cinzia – a formidable pair,
have been making food with love and integrity since 2003.
You can expect an authentic taste of Italy nestled in the heart of Gisburn, a quaint village on the edge of the Ribble Valley.
Owners Maurizio and Cinzia, treat regular patrons like family and new customers like old friends. They are passionate about their ingredients and ensuring you have a relaxing enjoyable time taking in the authentic tastes and flavours of Italy.
Once inside this hidden gem, I soon realised my palate and I were in excellent hands. As such I asked Cinzia to choose a glass of good red. Something a little light given the weather
was fairly warm. She quickly returned with a glass of Sangiovese - the perfect pairing!
For food, start with a Stuzzichini - small appetiser. Pane Carasau Condito. Traditional Sardinian flat bread with a crisp, cracker-like texture that is seasoned with aromatic rosemary, olive oil and coarse sea salt. I have also heard it nicknamed “piano paper” or carta di musica which describes it’s thinness.
I decided to have this with their homemade goats cheese, Scalogno Caramellato con Caprino. Served with delicious caramelised shallots.
Moving on to what I must say is simply the nicest fish I have had in almost ever! Cinzia explained that it was the end of the season and probably some of the last to be served till next season. Of course at that point I simply had to have it! Branzino con Asparagi e Cipollotto al LimoneWildseabass,asparagus,springonion,Amalfilemon. Succulent, melt in the mouth with a subtle lemon coming through. You can't help but salivate...
A second glass of Sangiovese and I was pleasantly full. I opted out of dessert - which I might add looked divine. So definately a must if you have the space.
My meal was finished with homemade truffles. The perfect size to tease your tastebuds and leave you feeling completely satisfied.
Chef Maurizio and wife Cinzia are the perfect recipe for a sensational evening of simple ingredients used to perfection.
