About the Module
This module has been prepared in accordance to the new
General Education Curriculum or GEC (CHED Memo Order
No. 20, s. 2013). As part of the GEC, Mathematics in the
Modern World is designed to introduce the nature of
mathematics and kindle appreciation of the many
practical, intellectual and aesthetic dimensions, and
applications of mathematical tools in daily life.
For every chapter of the course, there will be 2 or more
modules prepared to elaborate further the contents of
each chapter.
The course begins with an introduction to the nature of
Mathematics as an exploration of patterns (in nature and
the environment) and as an application of inductive and
deductive reasoning. By exploring these topics, you are
encouraged to go beyond the typical understanding of
