Module 1: Patterns and Numbers in
the Nature and the World
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Identify patterns in nature and regularities in the world.
2. Argue about the nature of mathematics, what is it, how it is expressed,
represented and used.
3. Express appreciation for mathematics as a human endeavor.
One of the most interesting aspects of the world is
that it can be considered to be made up of patterns. A
pattern is essentially an arrangement. It is characterized
by the order of the elements of which it is made rather than
by the intrinsic nature of these elements. - Norbert Wiener
