Local MP is sacked!
Oldham East and Saddleworth’s MP is starting life as a back bencher after being sacked from Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet amid allegations of workplace bullying.
Debbie Abrahams was previous suspended from her role as Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary over the allegations that she’s been bullying members of her team, however Mrs Abrahams has repeated her denial of the allegations.
In a statement the Labour Party claim her dismissal comes as a result of a “thorough investigation” into the claims and it has referred Mrs Abrahams to the disputes panel of the ruling National Executive Committee.
But the Member of Parliament for Oldham East and Saddleworth, who was first elected to the seat back in 2011, refutes the claims and has described the investigation as “neither thorough, fair, nor independent.”
In a statement she said she “strongly refutes” the bullying claims and will continue to play an active role from the back benches.
Labour released a statement saying Mrs Abrahams had been “relieved of her post as Shadow work and pensions secretary”.
It added: “After a thorough party investigation into allegations of workplace bullying, Debbie Abrahams has been referred to the NEC disputes committee.”
Margaret Greenwood, who took over the role of Shadow work and pensions secretary while Mrs Abrahams was investigated will continue in the role.
