PGA JUNIOR LEAGUE GOLF
Archon Timothy L. Bryant
Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and the PGA of America have partnered for the fourth year to deploy the Sigma Pi Phi-PGA Junior League Golf (JLG) program (aka, Youth Golf Experience), with the aim of encouraging long-term mentor/mentee relationships and adding more diversity in junior golf. The program is not discriminatory and accepts youth ranging from 5 to 17 years of age from any race, religion, creed, and socio-economic background. Through the six-week program, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity members and PGA professionals partner to introduce and/or mature participants’ golf knowledge and life skills across all socio-economic backgrounds.
The program kick-off occurred with a joint Sigma Pi Phi-PGA conference call on July 5, 2020, with all participating Archons and PGA professionals discussing the overall program, including safety and health management requirements, recruiting, and schedule. Each member boulé/cohort city has the goal of 15-20 participants, for a minimum of 150 total children across all 10 cities. Due to COVID-19 local health regulations, each member boulé/cohort city was given the latitude to start their respective training/mentoring in accordance with local golf course availability, with the goal to complete all training by year-end. Each cohort city has begun training with the exception of Epsilon and Epsilon Epsilon Boulés. Epsilon Boulé will start its program in Spring 2021 and Epsilon Epsilon Boulé will begin its program when COVID-19 restrictions allow.
