100 Day Report
100 Day Report
 The Grand Boulé’s ancestral footprint is em- bedded in the electoral process. For years our organization has been deeply rooted in the strug- gle for civil rights, social justice, economic and educational equality, and in the implementation of public policy to create an informed body of voters that recognizes the need for health care initiatives that aid our underserved communities. Realizing this, it will matter who inherits the White House.
It is conceivable that the next administration will be called to grapple with difficult scenarios that are complicated by Covid-19, record unem- ployment, race relations, police reform, budget deficits and perceived disregard of issues vital to the health and moral welfare of the nation. The drama of the moment requires that we stand up and speak to the urgency of voting in record numbers and that we make sure all people within our network vote.
By joining forces with the Lawyers’ Committee, we will call attention to public policy initiatives in the interest of the communities we serve and formalize a working relationship that will include collaboration on non-partisan civic engagement, and civil and voting rights initiatives.
The Lawyers’ Committee will do the follow- ing:
•Share periodic alerts regarding public policy, non-partisan civic engagement, and civil and voting rights initiatives, talking points, and sample notices/letters to members of the United States Congress;
49
•Provide training opportunities on Lawyers’ Committee public policy, non-partisan civic engagement, and civil and voting rights initia- tives; and
•Provide Annual Policy Platform and consider the Grand Boulé as a resource for legal and policy professionals.
The Grand Boulé will do the following:
•Encourage membership participation in public policy, non-partisan civic engage- ment, and civil and voting rights initiatives;
•The Fraternity, upon mutual agreement, will allow representatives of the Lawyers’ Com- mittee to appear at its meetings/webinars and present on public policy, non-partisan civic engagement, and civil and voting rights initiatives; and,
• We will, subject to approval, provide the Lawyers’ Committee an opportunity to publish substantive articles on public policy, non-partisan civic engagement, and civil and voting rights initiatives via Fraternity communication outlets.
So, with our theme in hand, Vision, Leadership, and Action During Changing Times, I ask every Archon and Archousa of Sigma Pi Phi to vote on November 3rd. You are not restricted to the work we will do with the Lawyers’ Committee. Be creative in your efforts to make sure everyone in your network votes. If you do so, you will answer the prayer of a 96-year-old women reared in the deep southern parts of Louisiana, a place where race always mattered and, who felt free at one time in her life. I hope you realize, as she has, how important it is to vote.
