100 Day Report
100 Day Report
 PACIFIC
Sire Archon George Strait
In 2019 the Pacific Region for the first time adopted a Stra- tegic Plan to guide its delibe- rations and actions for the next five years. During the first 100 days of the new biennium the Region has made significant progress following that course.
Archon Engagement: The Region hosted two of its four widely attended webinars on “Coping with COVID”. Three focused on overcoming the business challenges posed by COVID and taking advantage of the legislation passed by Congress. Two featured Archons and Congressmen Jim Clyburn and Bobby Scott. All were hosted by Past Grand Sire Archon Robert Harris. One focused on the health challenges posed by COVID; specifically it tried to answer questions for parents about to send their children
back to school. Archousa Glenda Newall Harris, M.D., moderated that forum. Overall, the Region has hosted four COVID-related webinars since the beginning of the pandemic.
Public Policy: Through the leadership of Archon Karl Gentles, Gamma Mu, the Region led an extensive voter participation effort designed to increase the turnout of African Americans overall in the Region but especially in selected races in Washington, Alaska, and California where an increased turn out might have the most effect. Archons and Archousai were connected with sophisticated phone banking operations and trained on who to call and what to say. In addition,
member boulés were connected with the Grand Boulé’s efforts along these lines and were encou- raged to support them. California boulés and the Region came together and donated in excess of $90,000 to support a constitutional amendment that would overturn California’s prohibition of Affirmative Action in hiring and acceptance to public colleges. This effort was led by Archon Michael Keeley, Gamma Epsilon.
Communication: The Region has developed a phone app to connect the Regional Officers with the officers of the member boulés. The app has a notification function to alert the Officer when a message has arrived and multiple ways to facilitate efficient and accessible communica- tions with one another. The app is completely private (Boulé only) and the information therein completely secure.
Growth and Expansion: Despite the limitations posed by COVID two member boulés were able to induct a new ‘class’ of Archons.
Social Action: Three member boulés established new social action programs and /or foundations to support new initiatives. Three member boulés have increased their number of Legacy Archons to a point where becoming 100% Minton or above is just a few Archons away. Four member boulés (18% of the total) received grants from the Boulé Foundation as part of its COVID-19 matching grant program.
