Falling Step Drill

              Stand in your on Guard Position with arms loosely
              on the sides. But this time bend your body forward
              slightly as you shift your 'weight forward onto your
              lead foot, so that your rear foot is resting lightly on
              the ball of the foot. Remember that the knees are still
              slightly bent. Now without preliminary movement
              take a quick long step with your lead foot and land
              heel first. Let the body weight fall forward. The lead
              foot should land flat at the end of the movement. (See
              Picture 24 below)

                                                                 Try the
                                                               falling step
                                                              many times.
                                                               Make sure,
                                                                that each
                                                                time you
                                                              start from a
                                                               comfortably
                                                                balanced
                                                              position that
                                                                the body-
                                                                weight is
                                                                 resting
                                                                largely on
                                                              the lead leg,
                                                                that the
                                                                knees are
                                                              slightly bent,
                                                                that the
                                                               arms are at
                                                               your side,
                                                              and that you
                                                                make no
                                                               preliminary
                                                               movement
                                                                with the
                                                               right foot.
