Fights To Save African American Lives From Big Tobacco
In collaboration with the California Tobacco Control Program (CTCP)
The I.E. Smoke-Out Project Team
The Challenge in our Community
Each year approximately 45,000 African Americans die from smoking related diseases.
Smoking related illnesses are the number one cause of death in the African American community.
Surpassing all other causes of death including AIDS, homicides, diabetes, accidents, drug and
alcohol abuse combined, according to tobacco-free kids.org
Riverside County Black Chamber of Commerce (RCBCC) I. E. Smoke Out Project is now
taking on the responsibility of fighting big tobacco. Striving to adopt and amend tobacco policy to
include the prohibition and restriction of flavored tobacco and mentholated products, along with
preventing the redemption of discounted tobacco coupons in the African American Communities.
The I.E. Smoke Out believes:
“Together we can do more in our communities to save the next generation from big tobacco.”
The I.E. Smoke Out Project initial primary focus area is the Tri-County South Region
which includes Riverside, San Bernardino and Imperial Counties. Our team will act to change
tobacco policies in the Tri-County South Region.
