Shoulds, Assumptions, & Past Experience
We often assume we "should" be good at communicating, speaking, and presenting because we do it every day. We compare it to simple tasks such as cooking or running. Yes, we are able to make a passable dinner or run to the bus on a day-to-day basis, but to be a professional chef or a world-class runner requires hours of practice and an ongoing commitment to improving.
The same is true for communication. If we want to be more effective leaders and team members, to take it up a notch, to go from good to great, we need to examine and take time to work on effective communication techniques.
There are a variety of ideas around excellence in communication. What are the myths that you hold onto? What myths may no longer be serving you well?
For example, common myths are: "Emotions are unprofessional." "Gestures are distracting." "I do better when I wing it." "I know the content so well I don't need to practice."

What assumptions about my own communication do I make?
What assumptions about the communication of others do I make?
