City Council and and Staff have worked diligently for about the past decade on achieving financial stability and and are
confident that now is the ideal time for Lathrop to to transition to to a a a a a a City Police Department With Lathrop’s economony and population continuing to to grow it it it makes economic sense to to move forward with the City’s own Police Department which equates to more officers peronsalized services and predictable costs The City’s tax base and development activitiy are
solid indicators that a a a a a a a a a a a municipal Police Department will be able to to provide the the the community the the the high level of service that they have come to to expect from City Hall Sworn staffing is is budgeted at at at at 33 FTEs which is is subject to review before the Lathrop Police Department initiates operations
on on July 1 2022 The new Police station is is is finished and and is is is being outfitted with state of the art technology and and equipment to include new vehicles ■ THE POSITION
Two (2) new Police Police Commanders will assist the the Chief in in establishing the the Lathrop Police Police Department culture building the the the organization and and developing relationships with the the the community and and stakeholders to to work together to solve local problems as expressed in in a a a a survey of over 500 residents Commanders will fill in in for the Chief during any periods of absence Under general direction the the Police Commander plans directs supervises and and coordinates the the activities of any assigned major programs and activities of of the department department maintains charge of of department department supervisors assumes command as as as assigned and and performs related duties as as as required required Additionally this position is is required required to manage various divisions bureaus and and projects investigate sensitive criminal or administrative matters and and assist the Police Chief in operations
and support services functions as directed ■ DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Police Commander is is the the management-level classification and and is is responsible for the the operations
of assigned sworn and and and civilian personnel within the the department in in in in in the the protection of life and and and property maintaining order and and and enforcement of laws and ordinances This class is is is is distinguished from Police Chief which has overall management and and budgetary responsibility for the the Police Police Department The Police Police Commander is is is distinguished from the the next lower class of of Police Police Sergeant in that the latter has lead responsibility over a a a a a a a a team of of Police Police Officers or professional staff
