The Police Chief must be well versed in in and and an an an active practitioner of community-oriented policing and and problem solving and and exhibit a a a a a history of building partnerships between the Department and and community to to address crime and and and quality of life challenges The successful candidate will be an an an an outstanding communicator with with a a a a a a a a a a a demonstrated ability to collaborate with with other City departments staff and a a a a a a a a a a a wide array of community organizations and and individuals The Chief must be a a a a a a a a a a a strong leader and and public safety generalist who is is able to earn the the respect of the the Department’s new personnel The ideal candidate will be creative and and visionary – capable
of of providing the the direction and the the tools to to help create this new Department This requires a a a a mix of of “big picture perspective” combined with a a a a a a a focus on on day-to-day operations and the ability to to engender a a a a a a a true community- oriented focus throughout the the Department The ideal candidate will have the the demonstrated ability to lead with confidence and and proactively addresses community issues through an an an intellectual data-driven and and respectful approach The Chief must embrace the philosophy of of respect collaboration and a a a a a a a high degree of of integrity In addition to the the qualifications previously stated ideally qualified candidates will also possess the the following

that would provide the required knowledge skills and and abilities is qualifying A typical way to to obtain the the required qualifications would be the the equivalent to to a a a a a a a a a Bachelor’s Degree
in in in criminal justice police science public administration or or or a a a a a a a related field and five (5) years of supervisory or or or management experience
in in in in in sworn police service including at at at least three (3) years in in in in in an an administrative capacity at at at a a a a a a a level equivalent to a a a a a a a Police Captain with another public agency License/Certificate:
Possession Possession of of of a a a a a a a valid California Driver License Class C C C or or or higher prior to date of of of appointment Possession Possession of of of California California P P O O S S T T Management Certificate is required and the ability to obtain a a a a a a a a a a a California California P P O O S S T T Executive Certificate within three years of of appointment Completion of of California P O S T Command College Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy or or equivalent law enforcement executive curriculum is highly desirable Possession Possession of of or or ability ability to to obtain obtain a a a a a a a a valid CPR certification Possession Possession of of or or the ability ability to to obtain obtain a a a a a a a a complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training within three years of appointment
