The Library Director must walk a a a fine line between delivering programs maintaining the budget and neutrally addressing social and political influences on library services The Library Director while a a subject matter expert should regularly consult with each member
of the board and devote a a a a significant
portion of time to obtaining the board’s
input on strategic and sometimes even
operational matters The Director should be skilled at at building relationships and strengthening alliances with stakeholders businesses civic and community groups various city councils and especially the County Commission A familiarity with capital project planning and delivery may be helpful as the Library seeks to build a a a a a a a permanent facility The Director’s primary role will be to to to manage funds and match programs to to to the desires of the the community while leading staff to achieve the the Board’s strategic vision Excellent people skills skills communication skills skills and especially the ability to simultaneously assess the the needs of both library users and the the County’s general population are necessary to develop a a holistic suite of of services that best meets the the needs of of the the community ■ EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Typically a a a a a a a person in in this position has a a a a a a a Master’s degree in in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited institution and five years of progressively responsible experience leading in in a a a a a complex organization however any combination of education and experience which may provide the candidate the required skills may be considered
