The Red Well-Read Reader

        Story 302

                                         Back to the Scrub

Momma Bear and Pappa Bear wanted to join the Chicago

Cubs Baseball Club. And so they did! However, in every
game their team got drubbed. Thus, it wasn’t long before

they found themselves benched, dubbed scrubs.

Having their hopes for stardom snubbed, Pappa Bear said to Momma Bear,

“Let’s return to the wild scrub.” And so they did! There their life was

               much easier for•ag•ing for grub.

        Story 303

                                               To Earn a Buck

                       To earn a buck:

A farmer needs to wallow in muck and sell

corn in the shuck from the back of his truck.

A hunter needs patience to hunt the fleet-footed buck

                              and the canvasback duck.

A pitcher needs to develop a fast chuck; and a hockey player,
the skill to handle the puck.

Hence, anyone can earn a buck provided he has pluck

and drive to be other than a lazy cluck.
